Elissa Moran Community Ties: Elissa has been providing Deaf services in Maine for more than three years, married to her Deaf husband for ten years, and has been a Licensed Sign Language Interpreter in Maine since 2005. Amy Sneirson Community Ties: Amy has been at MCD since November 2006, and has been a lawyer for 14 years. Her previous experience includes: a lengthy tenure at a Portland law firm specializing in civil rights claims under the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and federal and state special education laws; time in the Litigation Department of Maine’s Attorney General’s office; and private practice and Attorney General’s office service in St. Louis, Missouri. Anne Jameson Community Ties: Anne joined the MCD team in July 2007. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Southern Maine and a Master of Business Administration from Thomas College. Anne is very excited to be a part of the deaf community! She is slowly learning ASL and looks forward to being able to sign fluently. Outside of her life at MCD, she enjoys being a Master Gardener Volunteer and following the sports and activities of her son and the college life of her daughter. She and her husband, Glenn, live in Bowdoinham where they are renovating their 1880’s house and post and beam barn along with their children, fish, cats, dog, bunny, ducks, chickens and, maybe someday, goats.

Jennifer Welch Community Ties: Jennifer is originally from Kentucky, where she graduated from the Kentucky School for the Deaf before moving on to both Gallaudet and NTID. She has finished her BA in Linguistics (Interpreter Training Program) from USM. An active member of the community and a Maine resident for the last 14 years, Jennifer is also involved with Deaf Women of Maine and USANA Health Science. She enjoys outdoor pursuits such as hiking, camping and biking. Jennifer lives in Standish with her husband Matthew, two sons and two rescue dogs, one of which is deaf!

Gloria Carter Community ties: Gloria joined the MCD team in August 2008. She has an Associate’s degree in Executive Secretarial Sciences and is a State of Maine licensed insurance claims adjuster. After 23 years in the insurance industry, in the fall of 2006 she enrolled in the interpreting program at USM. In August 2008, Gloria contacted MCD for volunteer opportunities and the rest is history. Gloria lives with her husband, Phil, and their two cats. They have two daughters and two granddaughters. Meranda and Ken live in NH with daughters, Nora (age 3) and Julianna (age 1). Both are pure delight! Younger daughter, Charissa, is a senior in the Elementary Education program at UMFK. Jennifer McCann, LCSW Community ties: Jennifer has been working with Deaf & Hard of Hearing people for the past 19 years in a variety of settings including direct support/group home work, job coaching, case management, interpreting and mental health counseling. Meryl Troop, CI, CT, SC:L Community ties: Meryl C.S. Troop works at Maine Center on Deafness as staff interpreter and civil rights advocate. She also takes the lead on creating the MCD monthly newsletter, and maintains an E-Vents email list serve of all events statewide that are accessible to people with hearing loss. Please let us know if you would like to receive the E-Vents email. Meryl has been interpreting between American Sign Language and English for more than 25 years in a wide variety of settings, including legal, theatrical, political and educational. Meryl is a graduate of the DOIT Center’s Legal Interpreter Training. She is licensed as a sign language interpreter in both Maine and New Hampshire, and holds three national certifications from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. - Certificate of Interpretation, Certificate of Transliteration, and Specialty Certificate: Legal. Meryl has previously served as the State of Maine’s Deaf Services and Language Access Coordinator for 18 years; was a member of the Maine Judicial Branch’s Language Access Committee creating materials and training for court personnel to use interpreters, both spoken and signed; and has trained well over 5,000 professional in the use of interpreters.

Samantha Clark Community Ties: Samantha started her job as a Front Desk Secretary for MCD in April 2009. Samantha moved up from secretary to office manager & equipment specialist in July of 2009. She is a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) who can communicate in spoken English and ASL. She was born and raised in the state of Maine.
